New petrol price effective Saturday announced today!

We knew it since quite some days now that the petrol prices will be adjusted towards global prices. Today the prices you will pay to fill petrol in August have been released.

The Ministry of Energy’s fuel pricing committee, which includes representatives from each of the fuel companies, set the new price on Tuesday afternoon. A new price linked to rises and falls in the global market will be set from now onwards on the 28th of each month.

While petrol in general got around 25% more expensive the price of diesel, on the other hand, has been reduced to Dh2.05/l. Diesel currently retails at Dh2.90/l in Dubai and the northern emirates, including Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. The current price of diesel in Abu Dhabi is Dh2.35/l.

What do you think about the new prices? Will it effect you majorly? Sound off in the comments!

Countries with the cheapest Petrol in the World, UAE ranks 15th

Yesterday Global Petrolprices has released the latest list of the countries with the cheapest and most expensive petrol prices in the world.

According to Global Petrol Prices, a company providing data on retail fuel prices around the world, the average price of gasoline around the world was 4.15AED per liter as of June 29, 2015, almost two-and-a-half times of what we pay for a liter of petrol here in the UAE.  That given it is not a big surprise that many people are enjoying to drive big cars with even bigger engines over here.  But let’s look at some countries of the ranking:

Rank Country Price per Liter
1 Venezuela  0.06 AED
2 Libya  0.53 AED
3 Saudi Arabia 0.59 AED
4 Kuwait 0.79 AED
6 Qatar 1.00 AED
7 Bahrain 1.03 AED
8 Oman 1.15 AED
15 UAE 1.72 AED
29 USA 2.90 AED
40 Lebanon 3.25 AED
65 Philippines 3.82 AED
96 Jordan 4.38 AED
154 Germany 6.00 AED
167 United Kingdom 6.77 AED
170 Hong Kong 7.29 AED
171 Norway 7.42 AED
172 Bermuda 7.64 AED

Looking at this we are still very lucky here with the prices even being on the higher side of the Middle East. This list makes as well pretty clear why Germany has mainly diesel or engines with a low fuel consumption as the price is very high and almost hard to afford.  What is your point on this? Sound off in the comments!

Just recently the White version of the BlackBerry Classic was released in the UK and today it was released in the UAE already!  The white colored BlackBerry Classic is available now at the BlackBerry Store in the Dubai Mall and leading telecom retail stores for a  price of 1799 AED.

I really think about getting the white one as addition to the black Classic, Passport and Leap…

BlackBerry Classic now available in white in the United Arab Emirates

New Color Offers Greater Choice to Productive Mobile Professionals Looking for a Familiar QWERTY Design Merged with the Security and Speed of BlackBerry 10

  • BlackBerry® Browser – The BlackBerry 10 web browser is amazingly fast and astoundingly beautiful. That’s why HTML5TEST.com rates it amongst the top mobile browsers for web fidelity.* Access your favorite online content as it was meant to be seen, faster than ever before and with unlimited browser tabs.
  • Screen & Battery – The BlackBerry Classic offers a form factor optimized for power communicators with a 3.5-inch touch screen display, 294 dpi HD resolution and Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 for greater durability. The BlackBerry Classic also offers a large battery capacity and state-of-the-art battery optimization software. With up to 22 hours of battery power, you can be confident that BlackBerry Classic will be ready to deliver results when you need it.**

It’s the only smartphone assistant on the market today that can access both personal and work content in your work perimeter. BlackBerry Assistant intelligently determines how to respond to you based on how you interact with it – if you type, it responds silently, if you speak, it speaks back and if you activate over Bluetooth, it speaks back with additional context because it assumes you might not have access to the screen.
    • Dual app storefronts preloaded for access to a hugeselection of apps for work and play:

The UAE´s population by nationality – Quite Interesting!

We all know there is a high diversity of nationalities living here in the UAE. Some you find more, some less.  If somebody would have asked me how many Germans are living here I would have guessed way less than 12000.

The bqdoha Magazine has created a list of the total population and the the different nationalities. Most interesting is that they are extremely good with mentioning the source of their data, which is not really very common here and leads the most times to doubt the information provided.

It is important to note that the UAE National Bureau of Statistics did not publish any demographic data broken down by nationality. Hence all the figures listed in the table below are estimates, however they are provided by the countries on the list – more specifically their respective Embassies in UAE.

Investigating the current state of the market, the report reveals the market share of mobile phones in the UAE by manufacturer and model during the period between 1 August 2014 and 31 December 2014.

  3. Apple (11.4%)
  4. BlackBerry (5%)
  5. Sony (1.2%)
  6. HTC (1.2%)
  7. Lenovo (1.2%)
  8. Huawai (0.9%)

Considering all the Nokia 101’s out there this is no surprise that they are still on top.

The most specific handset models registered in the UAE in Q4:

  1. Apple iPhone 5s (4%)
  2. Nokia 105/1050 (3%)
  3. Apple  iPhone 5 (2.4%)

  10. Nokia X1 (1.5%),
  11.  Samsung S4 LTE (1.5%)
  12. Samsung Note 3 (1.4%)
  13. iPhone 4 (1.2%)
  14. Samsung S5 LTE (1%)
  15. Samsung S4 (0.8%).

Quite interesting to see that not a single BlackBerry device or Lumia device is in the Top 15.  Last quarter saw still the BlackBerry Bold 9900 within the Top 15.
