We visited the other day Girders Garden to attend the Ultimate BBQ Experience we had been invited to. Girders Garden is located within the J A Ocean View Resorts and Hotels in JBR. The place is really nice and it was a cool, fun and relaxing experience. We had spent few minutes with the Head Chef Thomas, a German national who gave us a couple of tips of how to marinate the meat with different kinds of delicious tricks and preparation so the meat specially the beef gets the tasty and tender soft outcome that later on made us wanting and craving for more. They have their own way of preparation using cherry wood in a slow low fire for 8 to 12 hours. We tasted the yummy smoked beef brisket, Bbq Beef ribs, the road kill grilled chicken, sweet potato fries, French fries, corn on the cob ,vegetable salad, lemon mint drinks, really great was the strawberry drink that made me feel cool and refreshed.
Girders Garden the first in Dubai inside JA Ocean View Hotel and Resort started back in December 2014. I had the chance to steal an interview with Ms. Lee Ann Lombard, the Restaurant Manager from Scotland and she was very pleasant and cooperative during the interview and she gave us perfectly detailed informations on our questions.
BBQ beef mania is available every Sunday, Monday and Wednesday and their ‘Road kill 1/2 Chicken is always available daily, for pork lovers party Bbq is available every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. They are serving four types of sauce, Jack Daniel’s Smoke Pit Special, Guinness BBQ sauce, Smoky Russian Smirnoff and No booze BBQ sauce. Their BBQ is quiet amazing and mouth-watering and tender.
Aside from that, Happy hour comes every Wednesdays from 4pm to 3 am wherein they are serving Top 3 drinks and Beers between 25 to 28 aed at very affordable prices in JBR area and from A to Z you can order different kinds of Bombs liquor mixed with red bull in a variety of flavours like cherry bombs and many more.
Overall, we really liked the food most especially the beef bbq. The place is pretty cool and the Staff was superb either. A must try out place Folks – we loved it.
Today morning an explosion ripped through the famous Turkish restaurant on Dubai´s Jumeirah Beach Road.
A resident who lives nearby said emergency crews at the scene said they suspected it was caused by gas and that no one was hurt. However, the explosion severely damaged the building, ripping through the restaurant. The ground floor, which included a wooden extension, appeared worst hit, with the walls and ceiling laying in tatters.
As it seems the upper levels of the building are damaged as well, with debris hanging from the ceiling. All the windows were shattered and glass was strewn across all four lanes of Beach Road.
Having spend the last few years before I left Germany to Kuwait almost every evening of the week in an American Diner in my Hometown this was something I have quite missed. A traditional looking Diner in 50s or 60s style that not only looks this way but as well has great Shakes and food (Sorry Johnny Rockets) is rare to find. I had not heard about the 82 American Diner previously, but when passing through Motor City the other night it caught my attention.
Today was no plan for dinner anyways, so we passed by in Motor City. Biggest fear I usually have over there is the parking, but luckily just around the corner is free visitors parking in the building, brilliant, that saves some stress driving in circles trying to find a parking. Though the Diner has an outside seating area we found it is not the right time of the year to sit outside and hence decided to go in. I love the traditional benches and style of this place with the huge Neon sign lightning on the Wall. Surely this does not match everyone’s favor, but it fits mine.
We had been on Reem Island’s Paragon Bay the other day and saw the Banner there for BShawarma. So we thought we just give it a try. The Banner does not give any location towards it so we had to ask people in order to find it. It is located on the outer Shops of the Paragon Bay on the back of the Geant Supermarket as we found out.
They have a quite big Menu over planty of Appetizers Shawarmas and even Pies, Salads , Desserts and Juices. We went for a simple Beef and Chicken Shawarma ans some Veggie Spring Rolls. Price wise the Shawarma’s come in at 10AED each which is really affordable, make it a meal and you pay 5AED more for really good fries and a drink on top.
The Chicken Shawarma was brilliant, I really liked it, it was tasty, flavoful and the bread used was superb. The Beef one was not really my taste as it had some sour incredients that just did not match my taste. But that is fine. The Spring Rolls had been average and nothing special, so for us an item to not reorder. We will surely go back if we are in that area and if it is only for the brilliant Chicken Shawarma

Loved the Chicken Shawarma, dissliked the Beef one

Perfect, tastewise good and really affordable
If you like Shawarma give them a try. You cannot do wrong with the Chicken Shawarma..
We had not been in the Bay Avenue in Business Bay since we moved away from there, passing by today we saw that way more shops and Restaurants are there than when we left back in beginning of 2014. One of the Restaurants, Tangerine, caught our attention so we thought why not try them out.
Tangerine is located on the Ground floor towards the Park side of the Bay Avenue. It is modern and chic styled and offers a classy ambiance. It offers dishes from different countries like Chinese, Thai, Indonesian and Malaysian cuisine. If you enjoy Far Eastern dishes there will be surely something for you around the big menu. Prawn Crackers are served complimentary and are delicious. We went for Prawn Tempura’s which are crispy friend Prawns served with a Sweet Chilli sauce. These came pretty quickly had been really good, the Sweet Chilli Sauce was just a little bit spicy, just right for my taste.
As main courses we ordered the Beef in Black Pepper sauce paired with steamed rice and the Pad Thai Kung Sod. The Beef arrived first and the taste was perfect. Slight spicy as well, but in combination with the rice the taste was awesome. The Portion was served was huge and would have easily been big enough to share for two. The Pad Thai noodles were ordered with dried Shrimps and Prawns and where as well super tasty. As on the Beef before as well here the portion was huge and we ended up in a takeaway.
Value for money wise we paid 196AED for two persons which is in range. You would not walk out of other Restaurants offering the quality and taste with less. For us Tangerine was a very pleasant discovery and we will surely pass by again if head down the Bay Avenue.

Yesterday I had planned to drive over to Fujairah in the evening to take some night shots. Unfortunately the weather over there was so stormy and sandy that I wouldn’t pull out my camera. Instead we went to eat something. Checking the Zomato App on the currently under review being Huawei Ascend P8 we found out about this Restaurant. So we stopped by.
It is a simple little Restaurant, though nicely decorated and cozy, and it offers basically Filipino food, but not only. You can get Lasagne or Burgers as well. We ordered the Fried Calamaris, Sizzling Mushrooms, Sizzling Tender Tips and Lumpian Sariwa paired with three portions of rice and a bottle of water.
It did not take long until the order arrived and the size of the dishes was just huge. It did not that big on the pictures and I was happy to have not ordered more as planned in the beginning. The Fried Calamari had been very good and the vinegar dip in combination tasted really good to my surprise. Usually I would have not combined this but it is really good. The Sizzling Mushrooms had been very tasty as well and the Tender Tips were amazing. The Lumpian Sariwa is a Filipino vegetable dish composed of different vegetables with a soft (unfried) wrapper. I have not tried this by myself but I was told this was perfect too. We had been three persons but the food served was still too much for us.
Value for money wise we have paid 89AED for all the above mentioned which is extremely reasonable for the amount and quality of food we got. A unplanned visit with a very surprising good find of a Restaurant. If you are in Fujairah and you fancy Filipino food, make sure to pass by!

We have passed by the Palm Jumeirah yesterday, not much news anyways, but a great find was that one of my favorite Pizza spots is going to open up a Restaurant directly on the Palm Jumeirah Marina West! Paavo’s Pizza. Great news for me. Pizza with a view over the Marina.
Below is pretty much the view you have directly from the Restaurant…
If you don’t know Pavoo’s Pizzayet I can highly recommend to try it out. You can as well check out our reviews on the Al Warqaa and Jumeirah Beach Road branches below:
Just before hitting the Spy Movie Premiere last night at the Burjuman Center in Dubai we had passed by Caffe Spasso for dinner. It is located in the Food Court on the third floor of the Burjuman Center and looks actually quite nice. The wooden floor and arrangement of the place is simple but comfortable. When we arrived around 6.40 pm that place was empty. We had been the only guests so everything should be perfect I thought…
We ordered a Cheese Garlic Bread, a Spasso Siciliano Burger and a Baked Rosemary Chicken Wrap. After some waiting time the Burger and the Chicken Wrap arrived. The Cheese Garlic Bread as starter was unfortunately forgotten… Did I mention we had been the only guests still? Impressive. The Burger having a foccacia bun was OK, but not really stunning or in any way memorable. The Baked Rosemary Chicken Wrap was actually tasty despite not much chicken actually having been found in it. This would definitely be the only reason to return for me.
Overall the choice seems not too bad but the items we ordered where not really special or able leave any very positive remembering on it. Reviewed: Caffe Spasso , Burjuman CenterValue for money wise the visit is alright, but for the same price I got way better burgers elsewhere. For me there would be no reason to repeatedly visit this place.
We had again been to The Souq at Umm Suqeim. Last time I tried out Meat Me There. While doing so I had seen that just next door is a Shawarma Shop, La Vita Shawarma, and this one we wanted to try out today.
It is not a huge Restaurant per se, but you can sit outside and have a really nice view over the Harbor and you can even see the Burj Al Arab Hotel close by. Best time is probably evenings after sunset, but we had been there at midday. They do have a small but good selection of Chicken and Beef Shawarmas in various configurations as well as Hallomi, Grilled Veggies, Potato Chilli and Falafel.
We went the classic way and ordered a Beef Mushroom and Cheese Shawarma as well as a Chicken Buffalo and Ranch Sauce Shawarma. Additional to that we ordered some drinks and Steak Cut Fries. The Chicken Shawarma was really good and I liked my choice of Buffalo & Ranch Sauce. The Beef one was perfect as well and the beef itself was very tender.
This is surely a cool spot to hang out at evenings and eat some Shawarmas while watching the sunset. Only point for criticism would be that they have no big bottles of water and not Shawarma Platter. But that is not really critic is it? We will come back here for sure, but not during mid day 😀 .

If you want a Shawarma with a view, this is the place to go..
Last night I was lately at The Souq at the Fishing Harbour in Umm Suqeim. I had been there quite some time ago when we visited Pizarro.
This time I thought I just go to snap a few pictures on the harbor late evening, but there was quite a few Restaurants now available. Last time we had been there it was only Pizarro. I decided to give Meat Me There a try, a Burger Restaurant that seemed quite stylish from the outside with a nice seating area directly on the harbor side.
Looking at the menu the choice was pretty easy. You can choose between three different kind of Burgers, three different styles of french fries, three different Milkshakes and a couple of Soft Drinks and Water. I decided to go for the Meat Me Burger, a pure black angus beef burger between a sesame bun and coming with American cheddar cheese, pickles, Tomato, Iceberg salad and secret sauce. Additional I ordered the Chizu Fries and a Vanilla Swirl Milkshake.
After ordering I sat outside and enjoyed the view. Even if the Burger would be below average, the location is great. Shortly after placing the order my ordered items got delivered to my table. The Vanilla Swirl shake was very good. Same can be said about the Chizu Fries. I loved the box in which they came, remembered my of Chinese takeaway food from home. The burger itself was super and very tasty, the bun is something I really enjoyed. The beef patty was well done and juicy – perfect to me.
Overall this is a really nice place overlooking the Fisherman Harbor in Umm Suqeim and really still a pretty well kept secret. If you don’t know that there are some nice Restaurants behind the Souq you probably won’t even go in. I will surely come back, and than I will as well take some pictures of the Harbor which completely got lost because of the Burger…
