Microsoft’s Bing Maps revamp is live in preview form, brings tons of new features!

Yesterday Microsoft has just launched a new version of its Bing Maps services on the web. The revamp, which is currently in a public preview, adds a number of new features and improvements, including some new search results cards.

Here’s what users can expect from the Bing Maps preview:

  • View information for multiple destinations with the new results cards: The Bing Maps Preview organizes your search results into “cards” that are displayed to the left of the map. The cards allow multiple destinations in a single view and each card displays relevant information, such as hours of operation, and similar businesses and services nearby. With every stop on your trip in one view, planning a night out is much easier.
  • Explore and plan using the new layout: The new Bing Maps Preview is touch-friendly and designed to be more intuitive. For example, choose your preferred map style (Aerial, Road) by clicking the button to the right of the map. Or, perform actions such as “save as favorite,” “add to route,” and “view streetside” by right-clicking on your screen.
  • Plan travel times with enhanced directions: Nobody wants to be stuck in traffic. Using predictive routing, Bing Maps Preview includes the option to input the day and time you plan to travel so you can view the estimated drive time. Now you can easily adjust plans if the roads look crowded.
  • Discover venues using Along the Route: Need to know where hotels, restaurants and gas stations are located on the way to your destination? Along the Route is the new feature that helps you find places you might want to stop at during your trip. Many have suggested this via Bing Listens, and we thank you for your feedback.
  • Easily explore with improved Streetside views: The new split screen layout gives a great street-side view of your destination while displaying the map directly below it. Take a 360-degree tour of the area or drag your mouse along the map to view a new location.
  • Save your destinations in My Places: We’ve heard from many of our users that it’s important to have a quick way to access their most-visited and most-loved destinations. We made this easy with My Places. In one click you can save a location under work, home or favorite. It will even sync with Cortana and the Windows Maps app.
  • Share travel plans with others: Once you’ve planned your outing, share it with those who will be joining you. Your travel companions will receive an email with the set of results cards, which they can view on their desktop or from a mobile device. And speaking of mobile, stay tuned for updates coming to the Bing Maps mobile experience.

You can check out the Bing Maps Preview for yourself if you live in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Africa. More locations will go live in the future. Also, the Along the Route feature is currently just for US users. More infos on the official website [LINK].

Countries with the cheapest Petrol in the World, UAE ranks 15th

Yesterday Global Petrolprices has released the latest list of the countries with the cheapest and most expensive petrol prices in the world.

According to Global Petrol Prices, a company providing data on retail fuel prices around the world, the average price of gasoline around the world was 4.15AED per liter as of June 29, 2015, almost two-and-a-half times of what we pay for a liter of petrol here in the UAE.  That given it is not a big surprise that many people are enjoying to drive big cars with even bigger engines over here.  But let’s look at some countries of the ranking:

Rank Country Price per Liter
1 Venezuela  0.06 AED
2 Libya  0.53 AED
3 Saudi Arabia 0.59 AED
4 Kuwait 0.79 AED
6 Qatar 1.00 AED
7 Bahrain 1.03 AED
8 Oman 1.15 AED
15 UAE 1.72 AED
29 USA 2.90 AED
40 Lebanon 3.25 AED
65 Philippines 3.82 AED
96 Jordan 4.38 AED
154 Germany 6.00 AED
167 United Kingdom 6.77 AED
170 Hong Kong 7.29 AED
171 Norway 7.42 AED
172 Bermuda 7.64 AED

Looking at this we are still very lucky here with the prices even being on the higher side of the Middle East. This list makes as well pretty clear why Germany has mainly diesel or engines with a low fuel consumption as the price is very high and almost hard to afford.  What is your point on this? Skype for web is now available in the UAE!

Problems with the Skype App on your computer? Forget about it! From now onwards Skype allows its users to use the popular messenger platform right from your browser!  While the service was announced and running already a couple of weeks ago in the UK and US, the availability of Skype for web is now worldwide including us folks here in the UAE. But to make it very clear, it is still running as a beta, so you can expect problems or malfunctions while using.

The only thing you need to do is to download and install install a plugin on your device and you are ready to roll.

The browser integrates chats and messages irrespective of the platform it is used on. “Whether you usually use Skype on a mobile, tablet, native desktop app or a TV, you’ll see your latest chats are ready to respond to in your browser… We’ve improved the way you search for people and groups on Skype. Instead of two separate lists for contacts and recent conversations, Skype for Web introduces a timeline view – a single, searchable list that makes it easier to start new conversations and find existing ones,” the note adds explaining the new features.

While some find the website already blocked for others like me it is still working, but probably that is just a question of time…

Kcal Extra delivers now in Abu Dhabi – and I am giving it a go!

Kcal was known to me since quite some time. There was a branch just around the corner in JLT back when I lived there. Since living in Abu Dhabi I had never seen it here. But that changed. Kcal Extra is delivering now as well within Abu Dhabi.

How it works? Simple. You can sign up on their website, whatever you have chosen on plan or food will daily be freshly made for you and delivered to your home or office address.

Great news so far. No shopping of groceries, no self cooking, no cleaning afterwards, no too much or too less food. If you have a busy daily schedule like me you probably fancy saving time wherever you can. This saves you loads of time and on the side give you fresh , healthy and a tailor made food for the whole day, every day. Or better to say on your chosen days.

But is it tasty? I can’t tell you, at least not right now. But I will be trying it out now for some time and will write about it here on the Blog while I am getting my breakfast, lunch and dinner plus an am and a pm snack delivered to my office.  I am going with the Success Plan which is designed for weight loss, so I should be able to find out if I can see results or not.  Stay tuned for more info’s and my daily review.

Tried out: Zomato Cashless

I am regularly using Zomato and posting my Restaurant Reviews as well over there. I love the website design and functionality and got in short time pretty addicted to it.

There is sadly no official App for BlackBerry to be used, but the Android version does the job. A function I found the other day was Zomato Cashless.  I registered my credit card on it and waited since for a chance to try it out.  That chance came up yesterday when we visited Osteria in the Burjuman Center.

I informed the Waiter before ordering already that I want to pay using Zomato Cashless. After we had been done I asked to pay and was shown the official receipt to confirm the positions.  The next step was opening the Zomato App on my phone and search the Restaurant. Once found it shows already as below “Pay with Zomato Cashless”.

Click this link and you will be guided to Your Tab. Here you can enter the Promotion code (you will get 50AED one time if you use the code GET50). On the bottom you will see the code. This code you have to give to the Restaurant staff in order to pay. Once you did so you just have to confirm the payment on your phone and that’s it.  No need to give your phone away , sign something or any other nonsense.  A receipt was mailed to me within minutes showing the price,, the promo discount and my pre defined tip I had given. It is that simple.

IMG_20150503_213354(Yeah , alright, the Android port does not display perfect on a BlackBerry Passport, but it works)

Overall I really like this function.  No need to carry a wallet or card with you, all you need is your phone and the most of us nowadays carry that anyways always with them.  Right now there are more than 300+ participating restaurants across Dubai already. So surely one is as well among the Restaurants you want to try.

If you happen to be a customer of the Emirates NBD, you can use that card for the transaction, and you will get a further cashback of AED 100 on your first Cashless transaction. This offer is of course a one-time only offer as well as using the Promo code Get.

For me this is a really coo feature and I will consider selecting restaurants based on availability of Zomato Cashless.

If you want to find out more on Zomato Cashless or register on Zomato itself you can do so by visiting the official website

How cool is that ? has launched Star Wars Emojis!

If you are a Star Wars fan and Twitter uses you will love this! Twitter partnered with Lucasfilm to create three #StarWarsEmojis with #C3PO, #STORMTROOPER and a new character #BB8.

The social media service is joining the build-up to the newest movie in the Star Wars franchise, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” by adding three exclusive emojis, or digitally created pictures, to Tweets.

According to a blog post, Twitter states users can add the emojis to their Tweets by using the hashtags representing keywords associated with the specific Star Wars characters. A small emoji-like icon automatically will then be added to the end of the text of the tag and embedded within the Tweet.

In the months leading up to the December opening of the new Star Wars movie, Twitter will be adding additional emojis of “legacy” and new characters.
