Stay charged up this Summer with Microsoft Portable Dual chargers!

Whether it is planning a fishing trip with friends this Summer or having a family outing at the park, we always end up exhausting batteries of our devices and the absence of an electrical source outdoors only adds to the hassle. Well, no need to fret anymore! The new 5200mAh, 9000mAh and 12000mAh portable chargers by Microsoft will make sure your devices stay juiced wherever you spend your summer.

Leading this powered up line-up is the most portable of all: the 5200mAh charger. With its slender design and pocketable shape, it fits perfectly into your pocket or bag, and is easy to carry with you wherever you go.

For the more power-needy who might have more than one device or plan to stay out for longer, either the 9000mAh or 12000mAh charger might be the preferred option. While bigger in capacity and also physical size, these two are still portable and can easily be slipped into your bag, your glove-box, or in your tent while you prepare your smores.

All three portable chargers come equipped with not one, but two USB ports, which lets you charge more than one device at the same time.

The Microsoft Portable Dual chargers can charge your USB charging smartphone or tablet as fast as the AC-60 wall charger and can hold their charge for months at a time and still have up to 80% capacity after several months.

What more, all the chargers sport a easy-to-read LED power indicators, so checking your charging levels is quick and convenient and they all come in trendy, flashy colors complementing your personality and lifestyle.

The new Microsoft Portable Dual chargers will become available globally in select markets with an estimated retail price of USD 35, 45, and 55.

Skype for web is now available in the UAE!

Problems with the Skype App on your computer? Forget about it! From now onwards Skype allows its users to use the popular messenger platform right from your browser!  While the service was announced and running already a couple of weeks ago in the UK and US, the availability of Skype for web is now worldwide including us folks here in the UAE. But to make it very clear, it is still running as a beta, so you can expect problems or malfunctions while using.

The only thing you need to do is to download and install install a plugin on your device and you are ready to roll.

The browser integrates chats and messages irrespective of the platform it is used on. “Whether you usually use Skype on a mobile, tablet, native desktop app or a TV, you’ll see your latest chats are ready to respond to in your browser… We’ve improved the way you search for people and groups on Skype. Instead of two separate lists for contacts and recent conversations, Skype for Web introduces a timeline view – a single, searchable list that makes it easier to start new conversations and find existing ones,” the note adds explaining the new features.

While some find the website already blocked for others like me it is still working, but probably that is just a question of time…

Microsoft Xbox One is coming with 1TB, releasing June 16!

At least almost. The June 16 release is for the US only. When it will reach the UAE is still open. I got the 500GB version and so far I got enough space left on the disk, but a 1TB version can never be bad, can it?

After havin already been leaked on Amazon last week, Microsoft has confirmed it will begin selling a version of the Xbox One console with a 1TB hard drive starting on June 16 for $399 in the US.

Microsoft says that the 1TB version will come with the revamped Xbox One Wireless Controller with its new 3.5mm stereo headset jack. People who buy the console in the US and other select markets will also be able to get the game Halo: The Master Chief Collection for free.

Are you in the market for a new console? leave your thoughts in the comments!

Check out below an official video on the 1TB Xbox:

Windows 10 to roll out on July 29 – Here is what you need to know!

It was clear that Windows 10 will launch at some time in summer, but so far no specific date was known, until now. Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore has confirmed the 29th of July.

If you already own a device running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you most likely already know that your machine is eligible to get a free upgrade to Windows 10 when it launches July 29. That free upgrade offer will last for a year after that date, but which Windows 10 SKU will you get for that free upgrade? We tell you.

Microsoft has revealed that information on their Windows 10 specification page.  If you own a PC with Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home or Windows 7 Home Premium, Microsoft will give your machine an upgrade to Windows 10 Home. Owners with Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate will get Windows 10 Professional.

Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 with Bing users will get Windows 10 Home, while Windows 8.1 Pro and Windows 8.1 Pro for Students owners will be upgraded to Windows 10 Professional. As Microsoft has previously announced, owners of Windows RT devices like the Surface RT and Surface 2 won’t get a free upgrade to Windows 10, although they are supposed to get some kind of update that will add some of Windows 10’s features, but which ones is not sure yet..

But is your computer even ready for an upgrade? Here are the hardware requirements.

This here are the very basic things you will require to be able to run Windows 10 on a Windows 7 and/or a Windows 8.1 PC and want to get the free upgrade:

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Upgrade
  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
  • Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS
  • Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
  • Display: 1024×600

Microsoft also lets us know that beyond the above listed system requirements, there are the one or another thing that might prevent your computer from running Windows 10, including “driver and firmware support, application compatibility, and feature support”. It adds:

  • For Anti-virus and Anti-malware applications, during upgrade Windows will check to see if your Anti-virus or Anti-malware subscription is current. Windows will uninstall your application while preserving your settings. After upgrade is complete, Windows will install the latest version available with the settings that were set prior to upgrade. If your subscription is not current, upgrade will enable Windows defender.
  • Some applications that came from your OEM may be removed prior to upgrade.
  • For certain third party applications, the “Get Windows 10” app will scan for application compatibility. If there is a known issue that will prevent the upgrade, you will be notified of the list of applications with known issues. You can choose to accept and the applications will be removed from the system prior to upgrade. Please be sure to copy the list before you accept the removal of the application.

I have tested the Windows Insider version already and can’t wait to have the full version running in July.  Finally, there are certain features Windows 10 has that will require more than just the basic system requirements in order for them to work: Continue reading Windows 10 to roll out on July 29 – Here is what you need to know!

Office 2016 is now available as Public Preview!

Microsoft has announced the public preview of its latest version of one of their most selling products,Office 2016. Public preview means exactly that, anyone can go ahead and load it up on their Windows PC and play around with it for a while.

There are a couple of different ways to go about getting your hands on it, and they hinge on whether you’re an Office 365 subscriber like me or not. Here’s what you need to do to get it on your machine:

If you are an Office 365 subscribers:

If you have a current subscription to Office 365, you’ll need to get the Office 2016 preview through your account management page. Here’s where to look for it:

  • Log in to your Office “My Account” page
  • Look for “Language and install options” and click it
  • On the next screen you’ll have to click on “Additional install options”
  • In the dropdown box you will see and select the Office Preview 32-bit or 64-bit installs as required.

By default Microsoft recommends installing the 32-bit version of Office regardless of whether you’re on a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows as it helps lower the chance of issues with third-party plugins.

For everyone else who doesn’t have the Office 365 subscription:

If you’re not an Office 365 subscriber then you will need to download the package from Microsoft directly. Follow below steps:

  • Visit
  • You’ll see download links for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the Office 2016 preview
  • As above, Microsoft recommends the 32-bit version by default
  • Make note of the product key on this page, you’ll need it to authenticate your install
  • Follow the install instructions and you are done

One more thing:  installing the Office 2016 preview will overwrite any current Office installs on your machine. So, if you’re not prepared to live with potential bugs, bear in mind you can’t run both side-by-side. If you have a spare machine it’d be worth loading it up on that instead.

Reviewed: Microsoft Lumia 640XL Dual Sim

e have played the last few weeks with the new Microsoft Lumia 40XL. A quick processor, a large screen, a high resolution camera, two sim card slots: The Lumia 640 Dual SIM XL makes a powerful appearance and is a snapper on the price with only  799AED- but trying it out it revealed also some weaknesses…

The replacement of the Lumia 630, the Lumia 640 in the XL version comes with a larger and sharper screen, dual memory, improved main camera along with flash and for the first time as well a front camera. We tell you whether the purchase of the Lumia 640 XL phablet is worth it.

Nokia Lumia 640 XL Design:

The phablet version Lumia 640XL is identical to the Lumia 640 in terms of design. Lumia typical the 640XL Dual SIM is packed in a edged housing with replaceable plastic top shell. Due to the size (15,8×8,2×0,9 centimeters), the device is only partially possible to be operated with one hand – volume rocker and power button though can be easily reached. The feel is good, not at least because of the hard edges, thanks to these the unit is securely in your hand. The mat Plastic back cover felt good and provides very less slip – and even prevented greasy fingerprints on the device.

In Pictures:

While the Lumia 640 has a 5-inch display, the XL version is 0.7 inches larger, ie 5.7 inches. Like most devices in this class The Lumia 640L phablet offers an HD resolution of 1280×720 pixels and a pixel density of 259 ppi. That is up to date and not bad. Text and picture elements are represented legible represent – even in direct light. Hats off!  Reason for this is that in this price range a high-quality and high-contrast display is not part of  the standard. Gorilla Glass 3 protects the screen from scratches and bumps.
