Chaps launches flagship stores in Dubai

Chaps - MenChaps showcased its Spring 2016 collection at its new flagship store in Ibn Battuta Mall, highlighting key fashion items for men, women and boys. The event introduced Chaps to the UAE market, signalling an exciting addition to Liwa Trading Enterprises’ growing retail portfolio.

New to the Market:
Liwa Trading announced the launch of Chaps—a timeless American sportswear brand— with the opening of two flagship stores in the UAE for Spring 2016. Offering a complete lifestyle collection for the family, Chaps represents fashion that is casual, confident, spirited and fresh. Chaps is available in the Ibn Battuta Mall in Dubai, and the Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi, with more stores scheduled to open in the coming years.
Launched in 1978, Chaps was created to be more than a just label, and quickly established itself as a lifestyle that evoked an iconic American sensibility. Special details provide each garment with a unique twist. Popular Chaps designs include the perfect-fitting shirt in smart stripes or checks, along with classic, flattering pants. The signature Chaps polo shirt is also an important part of the brand, drawing on a sporty heritage. Splashes of vibrant color easily combine with the rest of the collection. The Chaps design philosophy is communicated through versatile collections with a spirited confidence that can be worn season after season, celebrating timeless and accessible style.

Chaps - BoysAbout the Spring 2016 Collection:
Spring blooms with fresh fashion and statement looks in the new season range from Chaps. From a graduation party to a barbeque with friends, celebrate the warming weather in style.
Spring captures the spirit of American denim for women with cool blues, crisp whites and playful pops of red. Stripe and plaid knit shirts top off white or blue denim for a playful weekend look, while a denim shirtdress is the style staple for the season.
Inspired by the laid-back attitude of Key West, the Menswear Spring collection ushers in easy style in a palette of indigo blues and soft brights. Knits are must-have layering pieces for the season, such as a French rib quarter-zip sweater pulled over a graphic T-shirt or a buffalo check button-down—great for date night or brunch in the city. Always smart and sophisticated in a custom fit; the premium cotton dress shirts are suited for a busy lifestyle, outfitting a stylish professional on the move at the office or at a festive party with friends.
Spring break has never looked cuter with made-for-play polos, versatile shirts and bright check and stripe button-downs for boys. These wardrobe staples can be mixed and matched on any day and topped off with a stripe belt for a fun finishing touch.

Tried out: Landmarkshops.com

If you have been out to any Mall in Dubai or around the city even only a short bit of time chances are very high that you have seen somewhere a Centerpoint, Splash, Emax, Babyshop, Shoe Mart, Max or Lifestyle shop crossing your way.  If you, like me with kids, have to go to some of these very regularly and as well you spend much time in Electronic Stores than all this can get more convenient for you!

All above mentioned shops are accessible through the same internet shop, Landmarkshops.com. That means you can save yourself the hassle of finding a parking, running with family through the mall in search of the right items through multiple stores. Now you can do this all through the convenience of the internet, from wherever you want, well as long as you got an internet connection. Another great advantage, you don`t even have to carry it yourself! If will be delivered to your door.

OK, but does it really work well and does it deliver quickly ? Well, we have given it a try for you, and this is what we experienced!

I was looking for a backpack for taking when going to sports so looked around and had a surprising big choice which made it not easy to make a choice, but in the end I took the Kappa Sports Backpack on the cart which came in on 120AED, a fair price.  Another item we had been looking at was a Hand Bag. Unfortunately as well the choice in this section was too huge as that my wife could make a quick decision on it. But after ages of comparing and looking at the available models the choice finally came on the Rouge Olivia Tote Bag which came in at only 399AED. Not enough yet so the wife decided as well to go for a Fiorelli Zip Around Wallet which is really cool on the size, but not an option for me as man, obviously, coming with a price tag of 110AED this one was as well very reasonable priced in our opinion.

Finally it was my turn to check out on some good ol Electronics. First check on the DSLR section showed an OK but not huge choice on Canon Models. From beginner over mid range to full frame all is there, but new releases are sadly missing. I instead opted for a router which I required in order to extend the range at home. I found a pretty cool Linksys one which should do the job, so I added it to the card, with 459AED it had the same price tag as in stores, and I wouldn`t have to park and carry it, so it seemed reasonable to go ahead where usually I prefer to buy the most electronics in store.

Another pretty cool thing is that each order earns you Shukran Points (in case you collect them, I do), and that gives as well the choice to pay with Shukran Points! Or Credit Cards or Cash on Delivery if you rather prefer these methods of payment. We paid by card as it is easier to get anybody taking the delivery in case we are not home.landmark2

But placing the order is only half of the job unfortunately. There is as well the delivery. All items at time of order showed to be delivered within 2-3 working days. This is often promised but in my experience was rather rarely really delivered.  In this case I must say the delivery was spot on. They called in advance and came when they said they would, which never happened to me ordering via Shop and Ship or via souq.com.

Verdict:

Overall it was a very good experience, Landmarkshops.com gives plenty of choice across all their brands, new items are added as well regularly and the delivery is quick and on time. For me definitely the more convenient way to shop. No searching for Mall Parking, no hassle of carrying things around. All done with a click at the convenience of your home.

And on items over the value of 1000AED you have even the chance to pay them over 3 or 6 installments if you are a customer of Emirates NBD, Mashreq, NBAD or Samba. You see you are getting the full service here.

You can now switch Landline and Internet Providers in the UAE! Will you?

Good News for some Folks here in the UAE. I have been with DU since the day I landed here and have never had any issues with it, so probably would not considering a change unless the options are way better for the same money.

On the other end having heard what the boss had issues with on the Etisalat side scared me off quite a bit as well. So the UAE has started to open up the fixed-line consumer telecom market to competition, the head of du said on Wednesday, after years of lobbying for the move.

The liberalisation, which started in July, follows about five years of negotiations in which du has been seeking access to larger rival Etisalat’s networks.

Du, which also met expectations with a small fall in second-quarter profit on Wednesday, ended Etisalat’s mobile telecom monopoly in 2007 and both firms have long offered fixed-line broadband, phone and television packages in the UAE, but not in the same districts.

Du had been largely confined to the newer areas of Dubai until the two companies quietly launched nationwide competition in fixed-line consumer services last month, du chief executive Osman Sultan told a conference call.

He estimated du’s share of fixed services revenue was about 15 per cent. “For the long-term it’s a game changer because it will open up the entire country,” said Sultan.

He said the deal would help du protect its mobile business as customers seek a single provider for telecom services and also boost revenue, but would not necessarily have a big impact on profit because fixed-line was a low margin business.

Du and Etisalat, both part-owned by federal fund Emirates Investment Authority, will limit how many customers can switch provider each month.

Sultan declined to reveal what this limit was, but said it would steadily increase and had been imposed due to capacity constraints. Customers can change fixed phone line and Internet provider, but television will not be added until 2016, said Sultan.

So what do you think? Will you change? Sound off in the comments!

Reviewed: BShawarma, Reem Island, Abu Dhabi

We had been on Reem Island’s Paragon Bay the other day and saw the Banner there for BShawarma. So we thought we just give it a try. The Banner does not give any location towards it so we had to ask people in order to find it. It is located on the outer Shops of the Paragon Bay on the back of the Geant Supermarket as we found out.

They have a quite big Menu over planty of Appetizers Shawarmas and even Pies, Salads , Desserts and Juices. We went for a simple Beef and Chicken Shawarma ans some Veggie Spring Rolls. Price wise the Shawarma’s come in at 10AED each which is really affordable, make it a meal and you pay 5AED more for really good fries and a drink on top.

The Chicken Shawarma was brilliant, I really liked it, it was tasty, flavoful and the bread used was superb. The Beef one was not really my taste as it had some sour incredients that just did not match my taste. But that is fine. The Spring Rolls had been average and nothing special, so for us an item to not reorder. We will surely go back if we are in that area and if it is only for the brilliant Chicken Shawarma

Reviewed: Stars & Bars, Yas Island – Abu Dhabi

The other night we went down to Yas Island to visit Stars & Bars at the Yas Marina. The location in itself is pretty nice located directly on the Marina with a , specially at night, amazing view on the Yas Viceroy Hotel.  We had sat inside as the humidity was pretty bad, but this is not a turn down. We chose to sit on the tables with the car seats as chairs which is pretty awesome and really comfortable.

Looking at the menu probably anybody could find something they like, a massive choice of starters, a very good selection of mains and deserts and almost more importantly a good choice of drinks.

We went for Chicken Fingers and the Crispy Calamari as starters and a Margherita Pizza and a Tenderloin as mains paired with a bottle of water and a Vanilla Milkshake.  It did not take long until the Chicken Fingers and Calamari turned up, the Crispy Calamari Rings came with an aioli sauce and as well some spicy Marinara, all was excellent and I really loved the Marinara in combination with the Calamari. The Chicken Fingers were average at its best and had no real taste unfortunately. Even my  5 years old turn them down and rather hit on the Pizza instead. This could surely be done better.

The Tenderloin , ordered well done, came with mashed potatoes and vegetables plus a mushroom sauce on top. The Tenderloin was perfectly well done and matched exactly my taste. The vegetables where tasty as well and the mashed potato was superb, for me a perfect dish.  The Margherita Pizza we ordered came with olives on top and looked already yummy. Taste wise it is certainly tasty with the dough being luckily not too soft. As well definitely something I can recommend.

Overall the taste experience was mixed with one starter being brilliant and one on average and both mains really good. The service was friendly and helpful and paid good attention. One thing that surprised me a bit negatively was the below standard condition of the toilets, this is not up to par with this otherwise really lovely location. We will nevertheless surely be back to try out some of the other options, and hopefully be able to sit outside when the weather is a bit more on our side.
