Reviewed: The Butcher Shop & Grill, City Walk Al Safa

The other day we had passed by The Butcher Shop & Grill at CityWalk in Al Safa. I had planned to check out The Butcher Shop & Grill since ages in JBR after having gotten it recommended by a colleague, but always something came in between. While just walking around City Walk looking around we decided to try out this branch.

It was just past seven so almost time to eat something as sunset was near. The Restaurant was pretty empty when we entered, but it filled up completely until we left. Having had a look on the menu there was quite a big selection of dishes available to our surprise, we had rather expected a pretty short menu with mainly beef items, but surely no seafood.  While still checking through the menu the complementary soup of the day (Lentil Soup) as well as cut sausage in a tomato sauce and bread arrived. The Soup was really creamy and very tasty. The Sausage was lovely and the tomato sauce it came in was in our thoughts already a separate order for take away. The Bread was coming with three different dips and was good as well.

For the starter we chose to order the Salt & Pepper Calamari and as main courses we ordered the 280g Sirloin with mixed vegetables and a oven potato and the 400g Fillet with chips and mashed potatoes. The Calamari came pretty quick and for us it was the first time getting Calamari on rice. They came as well with a nice garlic dip which was really flavorful. The Calamari themselves where crispy and very tasty.

Just after finishing the main courses turned up already and I had to find out that the 400g Fillet is a monster, but a great looking one.  Taste wise this was really soft , well done and just perfect in its aroma with the barbeque sauce on top. I had it ordered with mashed potatoes which had been superb as well. The chips, or better called french fries had been fresh and tasted good too, but the portion was just too big to make it all. The Sirloin came with mixed vegetables and a baked potato and was very soft too, I had just a little taste of it but it was great. Only the mayonnaise which came with it was tasteless and could be ignored.

Value for money we paid 295AED for the two of us which was fair in comparison to the quality, location and level of service. Overall this was a very nice visit with great food and the promise to come surely more often to The Butcher Shop & Grill.
