Movie Review: “Survivor”

We went last night to the Movie Premiere of the upcoming SURVIVOR _posterAction/Thriller “Survivor” at the Novo Cinemas at the Ibn Batutta Mall in Dubai.  “Survivor” is directed by James McTeigue and is stars Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil Series), Pierce Brosnan ,Dylan McDermott and James D’Arcy.

The Plot in short: A State Department employee newly posted to the American embassy in London is charged with stopping terrorists from getting into the U.S. That puts her right in the line of fire and she is targeted for death and framed for crimes. Discredited, she is forced to go on the run while she tries to clear her name and stop a large-scale terrorist attack set for New Year’s Eve in Times Square.

Looking at the Trailer I could hardly imagine that “Mr. Bond” Pierce Brosnan would be any good in playing an Assassin.

The Movie is led by Milla Jovovich who plays the security expert Kate Abbott who was recently brought over to work within the American Embassy in London. She is overlooking visa applications for the United States in order to  root out terrorists that might be attempting to get into the United States through legal ways, and which is the start of a huge conspiracy.  Dylan McDermott is playing Sam Parker who is the only one on her side and the one who backs her up and tries to find out the real story despite all the clear looking facts. McDermott was already great in Olympus has Fallen back in 2013.

Pierce Brosnan who plays The Watchmaker, a deadly Assassin who unfortunately just permanently fails to kill Kate. Brosnan looks aged compared to Bond times, but I think that helps to not put him into direct comparison to these movies. He plays the role of the precisely killing and planing Hitman quite good. Still a bit to charming, but that is still in range.

The story overall seems trying to me a homage to the law enforcement people who have reportedly stopped 53 terrorist plots in New York City alone after the happenings of 9/11.  But this won’t be in your remembering when you leave the cinema.  I nevertheless likes the movie for what it is, an action filled fast paced Thriller that has the one or another flaw. The top notch actors are able to lift the film over the plot issues and deliver a solid entertaining movie.

So is it worth watching it? If you expect a fully explained logic film giving you a real look into a foreign embassy and anti terror works you will probably be disappointed.  But if you want to have a good time out with a movie that entertains you and a cast that rocks you will have a good time watching “Survivor”.
