Last night we saw the latest Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart movie Get Hard at the Reel Cinemas at The Beach in JBR. Having Will Ferrell in it means of course it is a Comedy Movie, directed by Etan Cohen who also has written Man in Black 3 and the screenplay of Tropic Thunder.
The Plot in short:
When millionaire hedge fund manager James King (Will Ferrell) is convicted on fraud charges and sentenced to hard time at San Quentin, he’s given 30 days to get ready for his prison stint. Having no hopes to survive St Quentin prison he turns to tough guy Darnell Lewis (Kevin Hart) to get him ready for prison. However, Darnell turns out to be an upstanding small business owner who has not only never been to prison, but he’s never even received a parking ticket.
I really like Will Ferrel and so watching this movie was a must. Is it his best movie ? No it ain’t. Does it do what it promises? Yes it does. It is an entertaining comedy keeping you laughing and amused throughout, though not really laughing out loud. The story is not too difficult to predict but Ferrell and Hart are charming enough together that you can overlook this.
Darnell: “Who’s Mayo?”
James: “It’s my gang name. It’s short for mayonnaise.”
Get Hard is giving you really all possible stereotypes you could and would expect in this movies thematic. From racial and sexual stereotypes to white collar criminal fund managers, black ex prison gang members and neo Nazi white supremacists. One of the most funny parts for me was when James was teaching the Gang Members on Stock Markets and Finance, did not see that coming.
Verdict: The Movie has a good deal of laughs all-around, but there’s also no denying that there are quite a few jokes in that are pretty much inappropriate. Hart and Ferrell certainly do have a great chemistry between each other and I hope both names will pop up on another Movie poster together. I enjoyed the Movie for what it is, a watch and enjoy comedy.
