The Filming of the seventh installment of the Star Wars movie franchise will begin on Tuesday in the Abu Dhabi desert, with the secret location for the set currently being guarded by police and army officers, it was reported.
Sources told Abu Dhabi state-owned The National newspaper the set was close to completion and includes construction of a salt lake, a large tower, a market area and a spacecraft.
The report also claimed two lorries of explosives were delivered to the set to create a large crater blast for a scene rumored to include the crash landing of a spacecraft.
Last month, Hollywood studio Walt Disney officially confirmed filming of the much-anticipated movie would take place in Abu Dhabi.
Despite the confirmation by Disney, Abu Dhabi’s movie production arm Twofour54 continues to stay silent on the matter and its standard response to queries is still “no comment”.
