New cameras to catch tailgating…

After been successfully tested on Hessa Street Colonel Saif Al Mazroui, Dubai’s deputy police director, said 50 more of them will be installed in 2014 and 100 more in 2015.

Dubai has introduced new sophisticated police cameras that can hunt motorists who do not leave enough space with other cars on the emirate’s roads.

He said the new black and grey camera has eight lenses and can distinguish between small and large vehicles as well as taxi cabs and other cars since each category is assigned a definite speed limit on roads.

The police decided to introduce such hi-tech devices because of the risks resulting from the motorists’ failure to leave enough space with other cars, adding that such offences caused 22 deaths and 426 injuries last years.
